Being from England I love a good pub. Meat and potato pie, cheese and onion pie, fish and chips ... excuse me while I reminisce. Granted I was 8 when I left England but what I've heard is that nothing beats a good pint of ale! So when I learnt about Novo Dolce, the sophisticated gastro pub in Bowling Green, I had to visit.

'so what you're saying is ...'
'I'm just so funny'
'haha yes you are'
'thanks, I really am aren't I'
LM – What is your business name and how long have you been open?
SM – Novo Dolce Gastro Pub has been open for 2 and a half years. The first year and a half we were located on Morgantown Road. The 'Pub' originated in England and concentrated on the bar sales of the business with food as a side note. The 'Gastro Pub' has almost flipped that around with a bigger concentration on good food.
LM – What was your life like before what you do now?
SM – I've always worked in restaurants. I started at the Brickyard in 1999 when they opened and then me and my wife moved to St. Louis. We moved back to Bowling Green and I opened my first restaurant The Bistro.
LM – What is the hardest part of managing a small business?
SM – Being away from my family. The days are long and I don't get to see my baby girl Mona as often as I'd like.
LM – What is your favorite part about what you do?
SM – Creating a space for friends and families to gather around the table with good food, drink and conversations.
LM – If you could do any other job for a day what would it be?
SM – I ask myself that all the time! Maybe a surgeon?? An ER surgeon with the fast paced lifestyle they have.
LM – What is your favorite part about Bowling Green?
SM – The fact that even though Bowling Green is big and growing every day, we still have a small and cozy feel. My wife's family is here and I really like the schools for my girl.
LM – Last but definitely not least, a gun is pointed at your head and you have to choose triple layer black forest cake with chocolate shavings, New York original cheesecake, or fruit?
SM – Fruit (this is the third time in a row that I got the fruit answer!!)
Cheers to happy hour, English ale and fruit!
P.S. My scarf and sweater vest are from Old Navy.
